Madeira enjoys an exceptionally soft and constant climate. The thermometer oscillates all year long around 20°C, with a minimum of 13°C/19°C in January-February and peaks of 25°C in July-August. Shorty combination, or 3/2, warm clothes for the hikes in mountain and rainy clothes.
To move:
Rent a car, it is the easiest, the roads are in very good state, you have to pay attention of the falls of rock when its rainy. Take a look on Internet, I found some agencies situated outside the airport with very interesting rates.
Kitesurf:
Hardcore condition, no beach, and difficult access, you should choose Porto Santo the nearby island with its big fine sand beach.
Surfing:
Very good conditions, waves for experimented surfer, takes board from 6’0 to gun.
Where to sleep:
At Maktub place in Jardim do mar, a kind of backpackers, youth hostel for surfers: there are a dormitory or personal rooms with common shower.
Maktub Website
If you come with your family, you will prefer a hotel.

Hi Jeremie, thanks for the terrific story about your trip to Madeira. We’ll probably be going in May 2011. There’s a large villa there that we may rent for a few weeks. Still consider places though. Have you kited any of the Canary Islands? We’ll be back in Indo July/Aug next year and hope to see you there! Cheers and Happy Holidays! Dan Tudor
